How can we realistically design, plan, and implement meaningful and successful processes to engage the public?

Public participation is essential for the implementation of policies, programs and initiatives. It allows community members to provide input and have meaningful dialogues on the issues that are important to them. And, if done correctly, it can even build trust with the community. Yet, we live in a time of highly complex and integrated issues, increased use of social media to communicate, and ever changing political landscape which has lead to the widespread decline in public trust in governments, organizations, and institutions.

The International Association of Public Participation (IAP2), a global federation of national affiliates, has spent over 25 years reviewing and evaluating processes around the world to successfully engage the public and local communities. Through that work, IAP2 has established a proven framework for public participation and has set the bar, around the world, for stakeholder engagement with practical tools and methodologies that transcend national and cultural boundaries. IAP2 has now streamlined and refined their highly-regarded and innovative training materials for this new challenging climate with a Global Learning Pathway and an IAP2 Global Certificate in Public Participation.
